Aphrodite never loses, not when it comes to love. Immortality has its perks and its downsides. Boredom, for one, is unavoidable, but instead of playing parcheesi, the gods devised a game that uses humans as pawns. Remember Shakespeare? That was Apollo. Bonnie and Clyde? Aphrodite versus Ares.

Aphrodite is on deck once again, and she’ll defend her domain of love as she works to get the humans together before the clock runs out, while her opponent tries to keep them apart. Game one is against Apollo, and Aphrodite knows she has her work cut out for her when he chooses Dean, a brooding rock star man-whore who believes women can’t be trusted. Aphrodite decides on Lex, a perfect match for Dean, even though her heart is guarded, locked away tight. She’d never let anyone in. Not ever. Of course, she hasn’t met Dean.

But there’s always more at stake than just the game when you’ve lived for thousands of years. The Olympians are the original dysfunctional family, surviving eons of love and lust, betrayal and lies, as friends and enemies, through feuds and wars. From Ares, the douchebag, who’s forever trying to start a fight and get Aphrodite into bed, to Persephone, her best friend, who she can always count on for a healthy helping of bacon on a bad day, the gods will take you on a lighthearted trip as they mess with humans, laugh and fight, lose love and gain power.

Deer In Headlights by Staci Hart

About the Author:

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom; she has three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife; even though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f, ends with k, and there a uc in there. Just saying. From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's sleeping, cleaning, or designing graphics. But let's be honest, she's mostly writing.

When Bree Prescott arrives in the sleepy, lakeside town of Pelion, Maine, she hopes against hope that this is the place where she will finally find the peace she so desperately seeks. On her first day there, her life collides with Archer Hale, an isolated man who holds a secret agony of his own. A man no one else sees. Archer's Voice is the story of a woman chained to the memory of one horrifying night and the man whose love is the key to her freedom. It is the story of a silent man who lives with an excruciating wound and the woman who helps him find his voice. It is the story of suffering, fate, and the transformative power of love. THIS IS A STAND-ALONE NOVEL. The first three books in the series need not be read to enjoy this book. Book Review - Gameboard of the Gods by Richelle Mead

Gameboard of the Gods by Richelle Mead

(Age of X Series – Book 1)

I really did not know what to expect with the Gameboard of the Gods by Richelle mead, but I was pleasantly surprised. I will admit that at first I was uncertain since it felt like I was missing something. I even double and triple checked to make sure that I was reading the first book in the series and not the second. Since I trust Mead so much, I figured there was a good reason that I felt a little lost.

The story did seem to start off a bit slow since I didn’t know what the characters were referring to quite often, but after getting past the halfway mark I couldn’t put it down. Once Mead started to reveal all that was kept secret, piece by piece, everything started to come together. The fact that explanations were left out at first supports the perspective of the POV’s. The story is told through there current thoughts, not as is that are telling a story to the readers. For this reason, it makes perfect sense that the things we are confused about are not explained. When a person is thinking about what they are doing, how often to the explain what an iPhone is or that USA stands for the United States of America? We learned what we needed to know, when we needed to know it. To me, this added a little more mystery to the story that kept me coming back for more.

It’s always frustrating when you are in the heads of the characters so you know how they truly feel about at each other, and then the never say what you think they should to each other. It reminds me of love stories on TV shows, it seems like it take 10 years to get them to finally profess their love for each other, and then the shows end. Happily ever after cannot happen in the beginning of a series. No matter how much we want the characters to just stop being stupid and say what they should, it wouldn’t make for a great story line for the series. Even when characters do profess their love for each other in the beginning of a series, there is always something that keeps them apart. If readers get everything they want in the first book, then what would they expect to happen in the rest of the series?

I am definitely excited to read the next book in this series, and I am a little sad that I have to wait until next year. I hope that any readers who have not yet had the pleasure of reading this new series from Richelle Mead give it a chance with an open mind and enjoy it as much as I did.

My recommendation for Gameboard of the Gods by Richelle Mead: If you enjoy a little mystery about the plot, frustration with the relationship decisions of the central characters, this book is a perfect example. If you would rather learn everything up front and have little patience for characters making poor decisions when it comes to matters of the heart, then you may want to steer clear of this one.

Masters Of Minecraft - The Awakening (A minecraft novel) By Terry Mayer

Masters Of Minecraft - The Awakening (A minecraft novel)

By Terry Mayer

My son is an 11 year old 6th grader, and he loves anything related to video games. He is required to read every day for school, but getting him to do so is an interesting task. I only wish that the Minecraft novels were listed on the AR lists for grade school children, its never difficult to get him to read those.

Once I told my son that I bought him another Minecraft novel, he wanted to start reading it right away. This story is not quite as short as the last one that he read, so he was pleasantly surprised to have more to read. Plus as an added bonus, he shares his name with one of the main characters.

The good news? I can use letting him read in the Minecraft novel as a reward for doing the reading that he needs to do. Plus, he's reading more, so its a win/win.

My son's favorite part of the book is the inclusion of some of the famous characters that he knows both from playing the game, and watching Minecraft videos on YouTube. Sky has been one of his favorites to watch on YouTube and he enjoys the part that the Sky character plays in the book.

Thank you for the great story and sparking the love of reading for my son. Now he knows that he enjoys reading, as long as he chooses books that he holds an interest in.

My recommendation for Masters of Minecraft - The Awakening: This book is for anyone who enjoys playing Minecraft, and the more familiar you are the better. The novel may be confusing or less enjoyable for someone not familiar with the game in his opinion.

Blog Tour: Tied Up In Heartstrings by Felicia Lynn

Tragedy ripped the security from her life. Left a single mother, Alexis's fear of loss insulates her from the rest of the world. Her best friends from college and close family are the only people she keeps close.

A man from her past has always been in love with Alexis. He’s never met anyone that measures up to her. Garrett is a musician, who never really imagined he’d have the fame and fortune that he's found. But, even with that, what he's always wanted is out of reach... or is it? When Garrett and Alexis meet up by chance a relationship begins. Neither expected what happens. She can’t be sure she’s ready for the complications a relationship brings. He will have to work overtime to win her heart without any assurances it will be successful. Alexis is learning about life without Jed, and is feeling more secure with parenting on her own. Garrett appreciates his fans and is enjoying his life on the road but misses having a private life. The lives they have built separately leave little room for a budding relationship, but their hearts won’t take that into consideration. Will the cards they've been dealt get in the way of a love that is meant to be? Is love enough to overcome loss and heartbreak? Can they accept all that the other is, without feeling like they are living in the shadow of their former lives?

Felicia Lynn is a transplanted Florida girl, born and raised, who lives just north of Atlanta, GA. She spends most of her days holed up in a cozy chair with a cup of tea and her laptop, writing about the characters that live in her head. When she’s not writing you’ll find her hanging out with her family and friends! She loves reading, taking long walks, chatting with her Facebook family, and listening to music, especially live music. A self-declared lover of all things baseball, she is obsessed with every aspect of the game!!!

Felicia writes contemporary romance, because love stories make people happy. Even in the midst of anguish and turmoil, true love can turn life around, and the process is beautiful. Most of Felicia's stories are based on real life experiences, which she embellishes to tell a story. She will soon be releasing her second novel, Mending Heartstrings and is currently working on her third novel, titled Love’s Learning Curve.

Just when life seems to be manageable, you’re thrown radically off course by “the one”. “The one” you weren’t expecting. “The one” who single handedly holds the key to the tattered and rusted lock to the walls surrounding your heart. Letting her into your protected sanctuary will only serve one purpose, intentional infliction of pain and heartache.

Jon is a man on a mission with only one agenda, to survive…to survive his past, and avoid letting his future be consumed by his history. It’s all really simple, until she walks into his world and turns it, on its axis. She makes him yearn for things he never wanted, or at least didn’t realize he ever would. Now his dreams and writings are consumed with the fantasy that this girl could change everything. But deep down he knows she deserves better. Better than him. Better than anyone he’s ever met.

He’s the lead guitarist for Garrett McKenna’s band. His life consists of touring, studio time, and writing music. That’s it. Staying healthy means keeping his routine, which has been easy enough until this little effervescent beauty rocks his world. Now he’s left questioning everything and doing some soul searching to decide if he’s equipped to give what he knows she needs and deserves.

Whitney avoids love at all costs. She’s not scared of it. She’s too strong to be that weak. She refuses to allow herself to lose her mind over another person, when there’s a high probability of getting her heart broken. She’s witnessed it more times than she can count, and she’s less than interested in taking the gamble.

Her strong will has served her well in life. Very few people know her secrets. She prefers to keep it that way. Her friends and family own her heart and deep devotion. She could easily do without the rest of the population but plays nice so she doesn’t appear to be the major bitch she knows she is on the inside.

Everything in her life makes sense. Her life is filled with more love and laughter than most will ever see, and it feels complete to her. She’s simply satisfied…until him.

He complicates things. His life isn’t something she understands or is willing to try to figure out. But she can’t keep her mind from wandering to the scruff faced, gorgeous guitarist, no matter how hard she tries.

He’s everything she’s never wanted, yet her heart is telling her differently. She fears she’s diving headfirst off the cliff of heartache. She’ll never recover from her brief no-strings weekend with this man. If she opens her heart it will be “the end”… no matter what. The question is what kind of ending will it be? Not all fairy tales have the happily ever after.

Wildcats Everybody Loves Baby Myshayo

by Julia M Busch

My children and I enjoyed Wildcats Everybody Loves Baby Myshayo by Julia M Busch. Its a very cute story of little Myshayo and his family of beautiful cats. The story is cute and adorable for young kids, yet still enjoyed for adults and children of all ages.

Having a bengal cat at home, we enjoy seeing all the different variations of domestic cats with wild heritage. I asked my family to pick their favorites, here is what they said:

11 yr old son – Myshayo the Geoffroy (So cute and sweet)
15 yr old daughter – Raji the Bengal (Love his colors)
My favorite – Greggie the Savannah (Remarkable colors and personality)
Husbands favorite – Chinny the Chausie (Soulful eyes)

My recommendation for Wildcats Everybody Loves Baby Myshayo: This book for anyone that loves cats, or for anyone that wants to give their child a great life lesson. That no matter how big your family gets, everyone loves each other for their individuality.

I give this title 5 out of 5 stars!

Best Vampire Fiction

Vampire related series fiction has gained popularity over the last decade or two, and for good reason. Vampire fiction almost always includes romance, inner conflict, struggles between good and evil, and characters that see people for who they really are rather than what’s on the surface. Paranormal abilities and immortality are another great aspect, giving writers the chance to use their creativity and create a world where the impossible is possible.

As a fan of vampire fiction, I have read a fair amount of it. However, there are so many options available now that I have not had the opportunity to read, though many titles are on my to-read list. As I experience more, I will update this list. Subscribing to my blog will ensure that you receive notification as new posts are added.

Here are my ‘Best Vampire Fiction’ recommendations. I hope you enjoy them too!

Young Adult
(also enjoyable for mature audiences)

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

The Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries by L.J.Smith

The Vampire Diaries: The Hunters by Anonymous Ghostwriter

The Vampire Diaries: Salvation by Ghostwriter

The Vampire Diaries: Stefan’s Diaries by Ghostwriters

The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer

The Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klause

Dracula by Bram Stoker

Mature Audience (Mainstream)

The Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charlaine Harris

The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice

The titles listed below are those that I have stuck to because I really enjoyed them in the beginning. The stories are amazing and they are quite addictive in the beginning. However, at some point they turned into predictable and sometimes annoying. Many people enjoy these titles, and I will continue to read them, but my enjoyment in these series has transitioned to curiosity and a need to finish what I started.

Love & Hate (Or is it love to hate?)

House of Night by P.C. Cast & Kristen Cast (Young Adult)

Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter by Laurel K. Hamilton (Mature Adult)

I am currently working on posting my book reviews for each of these titles, but it will take some time to complete them all. Check back over the next few weeks for my full reviews for these titles. Subscribing to my blog will ensure that you receive updates when new posts are entered.
